Personal Dietitian's Counseling Self-Assessment Inventory

The assessment tool below is designed to assess whether you might be interfering with your long term weight loss success.  By taking this self scoring/ self-evaluation survey you can find out if you would benefit from one of the optional support systems offered at Personal Dietitian. If after your self-assessment you find that you could benefit from professional assistance, we highly recommend our counselor, Julie Lang, MFT (Note: This is a fee based counseling). We also offer free online assistance via our other support options:  the "Ask Your Dietitian" (offering technical diet support), Staff Counselors (Staff counselors are invaluable if you need some personal help and do not need professional counseling support). We also offer Diet Pals (a mutual peer support option). Our support team believes each of these support systems should be given serious consideration as recent research shows valid reasons for using them.

Reasons to complete the Self Assessment Inventory

The survey below can help you determine what level of support you could most benefit from.  While Personal Dietitian offers a superior diet and weight loss program,  it is only one part of the answer to long term weight control and good health. If diet was the only answer, why are the percentage of American adults who are overweight increasing by almost 1 percent a year, and why have obesity rates soared from 12 percent in 1991 to almost 18 percent of the U.S. adult population in 1998, despite the abundance of weight loss and diet programs everywhere?

Only about 5% of those who start a weight loss program without some support structure are successful in keeping weight off long term. The causes of overeating are not removed from most diets and diet plans, and in many cases where the diet is extreme, dieting can actually increase compulsive eating.  At Personal Dietitian we believe you deserve a successful long-term weight control program and deserve a better approach to weight loss.  Through a professional diet that you can live with, a sensible exercise routine, and effective emotional support ( from friends, family, epals, and counselors), we believe you will have what you'll need to accomplish your task.

A Good Reason for Support

Why should  you access our weight loss counseling support options? In a very recent research study of 65 overweight adults, it was found that visiting weight-loss information web sites can help to shed pounds, but the study shows that a more important component  is access to counseling advice from behavioral therapists.  Dieters who accessed internet counseling lost three times as much weight in six months as their counterparts. The study, led by Brown University researcher Deborah F. Tate, appeared in The Journal of the American Medical Association (3-7-01).  Personal Dietitian offers several email components to support continued successful weight loss (diet pals, dietitian support, a staff counselor, and behavioral counseling support).

Support Survey

Self-compassion, self-reflection, and self-nurturing  are very important in life and deserves your attention. Developing emotional insight through understanding one’s feelings and the process of communicating these emotional desires can also help to eliminate the need to use food or body weight to cope with your problems. Through a genuine understanding of our emotional selves, a well planned diet program, and a routine of exercise, you are most likely to find the weight loss success you seek along with the rewards of  greater happiness,  peace, and improved health and fitness.

Now, take the survey below to help you determine your need for support in your efforts. Do yourself a favor, don't try to second guess the questions as they are placed in no particular scoring order.  Instead, be honest with yourself and your results will be of greater benefit. The results of this survey help determine whether you would benefit from a counselor's viewpoint regarding your weight loss issues. Often times our efforts fall short in weight loss programs and we lose incentive or quit because of barriers in our life that can be beyond our control.  Our counselor offers a professional's assessment as a way for you to identify your particular barriers.  In general, self-assessment alone can be beneficial.  We advise you to use this tool as an indicator of your need for support. It is not our intention to misrepresent the survey as a scientifically validated survey, instead it is a useful tool to evaluate your need for greater support.
